Michael & Karisa’s Letter

Dear Birthparent(s),

We cannot imagine the strength it takes to make the selfless choice to give life and allow someone else to parent your child. We know circumstances vary that bring parents to choose adoption for their child. Some are unprepared, some overwhelmed and others simply choose not to be parents.  Whatever your circumstance, we admire your courage to choose life for your child. We are hoping and praying to expand our family through adoption and thank you for taking the time to consider us as potential adoptive parents.

We met online when I was moving to be near family after attending school in upstate New York.  We dated for a year and a half before Mike proposed and we have now been married for 5 ½ years since May 30th, 2009.  We both believe God brought us together and we fell in love nearly immediately. We make our relationship a priority, checking in with each other even as we work.  Our love continues to grow daily and we are each other’s best friends. We balance each other out perfectly as I am a planner and make sure everyone is taken care of while Mike knows the importance of having unplanned time to wind down and makes sure everyone is laughing and having a good time.

We wanted to begin a family immediately after marriage, however, after 4 years of trying naturally and through fertility treatments, this has not been possible. After much prayer and support from family, we believe God lead us to adoption. We started our adoption journey in February of 2014 and our home was officially approved in September of 2014.  We pray daily to be connected with the birth parents God has chosen.

Mike works full time as a Security Captain for his family’s security business.  He has the opportunity to work with his father and sister daily. I am a supervisor in a non-profit company that educates parents in parenting skills and connects them with vital resources to care for their children.  Both of our jobs allow us somewhat flexible schedules to be able to attend school and community activities with our nieces and nephews.

In our free time, we love hanging out with family and friends and to stay active. We are part of a co-ed soccer team and go for runs as the weather allows.  Both our extended families live nearby, giving us the opportunity to spend as much time as possible with them. Birthdays, holidays and other celebrations are spent together. Our nieces also come over for sleepovers regularly and love to help me bake sweet treats to serve to Mike and their parents.  Mike makes a point of spoiling them with donuts in the morning, making sure to take their order the night before.

God has blessed us with amazing family and friends, a warm home and secure and fulfilling careers. We pray daily for the opportunity to share our happiness with a child/children. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. Given the opportunity, we would love to meet you and answer any questions you may have.
