Volunteer Policies

We invite all people to apply to become volunteers at Catholic Charities.

The mission of Catholic Charities is to bring Christ’s merciful love to those who suffer in our midst. Our mission is carried out by Catholic people and others in fraternal goodwill pooling their resources to reach out and assist those in need. Catholic Charities helps those in need without regard to their religion, race or country of origin. We value all human life, and we treat each person we serve with respect and dignity. We are a major provider of social and human services to tens of thousands each year in Eastern Oklahoma.

In carrying out this mission we rely on and support those who volunteer. Catholic Charities is the “primary instrument”, but it takes volunteers to take that instrument in their capable and loving hands and put it to use. Catholic Charities supports the volunteers who do much of the hands-on work and ministry of this mission.

Do I need to be Catholic to Volunteer?

The answer is NO.  Like those we serve, we encourage volunteers of any religion, race and/or country of origin. Less than 15% of those we serve are Catholic, and likewise there are many non-Catholics who volunteer their time and talent.  Many of our volunteers have been touched in some way by Catholic Charities and have now chosen volunteering as a way to give back.

What is required to become a volunteer?

Catholic Charities has many different types of volunteers: those who offer consistent, recurring service (like every Tuesday morning, or every other Wednesday); those who help each year with specific programs or events (like Cooking Up Compassion, or Trav’s Coats for Kids); those who bring their family or a group to help with Thanksgiving or Christmas Food Baskets; students who volunteer for community service or while home from college on break; or even those who occasionally want to give a few hours to help us sort donations or fill grocery orders.

We will welcome you as a volunteer and can offer flexible hours, rewarding work, and the chance to make a real difference for those we serve. You will be on the team of more than 3,700 volunteers who currently assists more than 60,000 clients each year. The harvest is plenty and the workers are few – will you join us in this important work?

To learn more you can come to a Volunteer Orientation, get a tour, have your questions answered, and see if/where/how your talents, gifts and energy might be a match for the needs we have.  Volunteer orientations are held:

The first Wednesday of each month – 1 pm

The second Wednesday of each month – 2 pm

The third Wednesday of each month – 3 pm

The fourth Wednesday of each month – 6 pm

There is no obligation to volunteer if you attend.  We love to show off our campus and the wonderful work God is doing through our staff and volunteers.

Catholic Charities interviews, screens and does background checks to ensure the safety of our employees, other volunteers and those we serve.

All volunteers who have contact with children and/or youth must also complete the Virtus training offered by the Catholic Diocese of Tulsa.

We are grateful to all our volunteers for the many hours and diverse ways in which they serve God’s people. Thanks for considering Catholic Charities as a way to serve. If you have questions, contact us at volunteer@cctulsa.org or 918.508.7125. We look forward to working with you.
